DYERS HALL FISHERY, CHIGNALL SMEALY Key: B K

18/7/04

Tench have provided the highlight of catches from our lake at Dyers hall, Chignal Smealy, north west of Chelmsford, which we opened on 1st July. The largest fish so far reported is 8lbs 5oz, with several between 5lb and 7lb being taken. The main other species is roach up to over 1lb. members are finding that they need to take a weed rake to facilitate fishing at the shallower end of the lake, around the island, but this is where most of the tench are taken during the summer.Members have been reporting their catches to the clubs Helpdesk (0870 240 7074),as requested. This will enable the club's Committee to decide which species of fish and in what quantity to stock to provide a well balanced fishery for the coming five year lease.

The stock of fish is not known exactly, but there is believed to be a head of good tench, and numbers of other species. In view of our lease, we plan to stock this lake once we know its present inhabitants. It is therefore very important that we receive feed-back from members who fish the water, even if they have little luck. As usual, we look forward to receiving your comments as to the species of fish to be stocked, other than carp!   As we can do no work to prepare this lake for members before 1st July, you may find that it is weedy, especially at the end nearer to the car park, where there is an island. Apparently, this is where the bigger tench reside. If we see that there is a weed problem, this will be dealt with sympathetically at the appropriate time of year, and we suggest members take a weed rake for the present.   Members will see that there is a fair walk from the parking area to the lake, but this is flat and over well tended parkland . When you leave the car park, walk directly towards the lake, which can just be seen, and this will create an obvious path. The landlords may provide closer parking in the future, from the lane parallel to the lake, and this would enable us to install a portaloo. Once you are at the lake, do not wander on to the surrounding land.   A term of the lease enables the existing shooting rights to continue, but these are carried out in partnership with our fishing rights, so there should be no problems. If it is necessary to close the lake on one or two days each season for shooting, members will be given due notice.

TIMES YOU ARE ALLOWED ON THE WATER/CAR PARK:

6 A.M.-10 P.M.

NO DOGS ARE ALLOWED

Please close the gate after you. Parking is at the top left of the concreted area, against the edge of the field. PLEASE PARK SENSIBLY. As people live by the side of the entry road, please act quietly at all times.
