Willow Mere
It was a case of Happy New Year with this 18lbs 2oz carp caught on New Years Day from Willow Mere.
This is the 3rd carp I have caught from this venue (I have photos of the other 2) that appear to have been deliberately marked with a 'tail notch'. What a shame that someone has mutilated such a beautiful fish. Get a life!

Straits Mill
Myself and my dad went to Straits Mill. It Started off very cold and frosty in the morning but I managed to pull out a 12lb common, it was a no show on the pike front with spinners or dead baits but 1 of the dead baits came back with its belly chewed up possibly eels. Other than the common no other fish came out for the rest of the day

Laundry
A chilly day at Laundry Lake today, Monday 28th Nov. Norman & I arrived early and were lazy in taking the car park swim. Rods were in by 7.45 then out again then in again, not unsurprisingly all very quiet. Target was to get Norman a 20lb+ before the end of the year and things weren't looking so good as the hours passed by without so much as a beep, not even from the Crays! However, Laundry never lets you down if you stick it out and at 5.10pm Norman's alarm made a poor excuse at a beep and the bobbin bobbed so he struck. Success.....after getting the magnificent mirror on the mat the scales registered a fantastic 23lb exactly, mission accomplished! A few pics attached.

Laundry
A gorgeous Mirror caught at Laundry Lake yesterday (9/11/11) evening at 5.15pm. Weighed in at 25lb 7oz but it felt a lot more. Couldn't weigh it properly as I was on my own, very dark and I was was holding the torch in my mouth (lost head torch!), whilst trying to hold the weigh sling! Felt more like a 30 so I will just have to try and get her again!!

Armigers & Windmill
Had two good days fishing the first at Armigers getting battered by gale force winds and rain but found the lake to be very productive despite the weather, between myself my dad and my cousin we must have had nearly 50 - 60 fish the biggest being a 11.8lb common a very good lake to cut your teeth on carp fishing.
The second day was at swan lake again getting hit by the gale force wind initially we were aiming for the big perch but gave up on this by around 2 in the afternoon as none were showing, I changed rods over and pulled out a 10.5lb common not a bad way to end the day

Along with this I had two more mirrors just either side of the 10lb mark and a 15lb 7oz common. I also had two Tench between 3lb-4lb and a 4lb 7oz Bream. A beautiful lake. Laundry Lake
Hi, Norman & I had a session downat Laundry Lake last weekend. A long long day battling against the army like trained ducks and other winged wildlife swooping in on mass to empty the swim of any bait going! Day began at 6am and finished around 9pm and we only managed the one fish between us, a beautiful common weighing in at 19lb 6oz. Norman returned the next day and nailed a lovely 16lb 8oz common (no pic). A great venue, but be patient and enjoy the wildlife!

Armigers
Myself and my good lady went down to Armigers for the afternoon on Sunday 31st July. The weather was glorious and so was the fishing. We caught plenty of carp between us, Alex landing her PB, a Common Carp weighing exactly 10lb. Not to be out-done I had this lovely 15lb 4oz common. I heard someone round the lake say they had caught a fish just shy of 16lb so there were some nice fish coming out.
Can’t recommend this venue enough

Armigers
On Saturday 16th July myself and a couple of mates went down to Armigers for a night session. Despite AWFUL weather conditions (meaning we only fished for about 5 hours in total) we had a great session with loads of carp (42 in total) being landed. Nothing of any great size but all put up a great account of themselves. A couple of the better fish (me with a 9lb Common and John with a 10lb) are attached.
This is a great venue with tonnes of Carp; a great place for anyone thinking of cutting their teeth into carp fishing.

Thoby Wood
Sunday 3rd July. I went over to Thoby Wood for a morning session with my Dad. We each caught some nice Tench but I capped the day off with this gorgeous 20lb 1oz common carp. This was the first time either of us had fished this venue and certainly won’t be the last. It’s a really nice place, a little weedy, but there are still plenty of clear spots to fish to. All fish were caught to feeder tactics fishing just off of lilies.

Southminster
Had a wonderful 4 day session at Southminster on 15th-18th June despite the weather! Myself Norman & Roy pitched up camp on the beach bit of pit 1 on Wednesday and 4 great days/3 nights followed. Norman & Roy had a massive haul in excess of 50+ fish between them, primarily Carp but also some Bream and Tench. I managed a lowly 6 fish but everyone a beauty! Normans best of the session was a 13lb + Carp and a 12lb+ for Roy. Mine an 8lb’r. Weather was unpredictable and Friday was just a constant barrage of heavy rain and strong winds but we stuck it out to the bitter end and we’ll be back there as soon as all of the gear has dried out!!

Etang des Landes
I have just spent a weeks fishing in France at the above venue. I was lucky enough to accompany Barry Cove (who won theChairmans cup) and his son Lewis on this trip. I have visited this lake several times before and have never been disappointed with the weeks fishing. On this trip Barry and Lewis both managed to beat their personal best several times Lewis now joining the 30lb plus club! As always Mary's food is out of this world!!
Unfortunately due to Paul's ill health I understand that this venue is now up for sale. I am sure all of us at BDAC wish Paul & Mary all the best for the future.

Hhad a great time on this lovely little water last autumn with
my partner Wendy who has just recently started fishing. We decided to see what
carp potential dyers hall had to offer, being very close to where we live. We
spent the whole of last autumn with the lake pretty much to ourselves for two
months, with the exception of Brian the bailliff who was always pleasant to see
and have a chat with. Thanks Brian, top man ! Between Wendy and myself, me with
two rods and Wendy with one rod, we had eighteen different carp from 5lb to
16ib all in mint condition, some looked uncaught. It was productive during
september up until late october and as the weeks passed the more fish came out
as we built a swim up over a long period. We also had plenty of tench to 5lb
and the best day we had six fish in total. Wendy beat her previous PB of 13lb
12oz from straights mill with a mint condition 14lb 14oz common.
The first day
of this season I went back for a rain check and had a 23lb immaculate common
which looked like the largest of the fish we saw in the margins last year. Ive
heard of a 25lb common out previously but seen no pics. Ive not seen anything
remotely near to thirty pounds as yet. I would put a figure of around thiry
carp averaging 10lb with one or two twenties. It could put up a surprise you
never know, but its a lovely place to fish away from the crowds if you dont
mind a very long walk from the car park and can deal with lots of weed.. In my
opinion its worth it, a little jewel of a water thats very overlooked,
THANKFULLY LOL.
Although we are still members of Billericay and still visit
Dyers now and then, we have moved on to a Cemex water for the larger carp, Ive
managed to have my first thirty and new PB and Wendy is still waiting for a new
PB, Hope to see you again sometime Brian (hope you didnt miss Spring watch)
Best wishes, tight lines Dave N Wendy.

Chairman’s Carp Cup Etang Des Landes visit.
Thought I would just drop a little report on my visit to Etang Des Landes at the end of May 2011 after my fortunate win in July 2010.
I went there with my son Lewis Cove & John Scraggs on the 28th May this year for one week. My first visit to this venue and indeed my first to Carp Fishing in France, and I must say that arriving on that glorious Saturday morning I was stuck for words at the stunning beauty of this place. A fantastic 18th Century Flint Stone Cottage overlooking a stunning five acre lake sitting the most idyllic forest and countryside.
Between the three of us we caught 24 beautiful condition carp and 3 Tench. The Carp weights ranged from 5lb 3oz to 35lb 8oz being a mixture of Commons & Mirrors. The week started slow but soon gained quickly to some hard fighting fish. I myself broke my PB with a lovely 26lb 10oz Common and only to be out done by my son who after a hard fight bagged a lovely 30lb 3 oz Mirror. Don`t think i will hear the last of this!!!!
John however had the largest of the week with a 35lb 8 oz Common, one of many Thirties that he caught & then also a lot of mid to high Twenties for us all.
The hospitality we were shown by Mary & Paul was second to none, the food was out of this world!! Not a scrap of food left on our plates all washed down with a nice drop of Red Wine. The facilities at Etang Des Landes are superb and clean with nothing to much trouble, Mary & Paul certainly know how to look after their guests and are a credit, many thanks to them.
I will certainly be going back to Etang Des Landes and highly recommend that you do so too.

Straits Mill
I was fishing Straits Mill, Braintree on the 27th of May. Me and my Dad arrived at the lake at 7am and there was already 3 other anglers fishing on the lake. The weather was overcast and drizzling. I decided to fish the swim just down the right hand side of the car park and target the carp and my dad was to target the silver fish. At 9 o’clock I had a severe drop back on my left hand rod but that was all the action till midday. The little lake was situated behind me and I had been throwing in dog biscuits most of the day and there was 2 carp which were feeding confidently, I reeled in my rods on the main lake and within a minute of casting out a surface rig I was awarded with a dark hard fighting mirror of about 9lb. I then recast my rods in the main lake, 20 minutes past and then I received a screamer on my left hand rod which turned into a hard 20minute fight and a lovely 23lb 3oz mirror. I recast the left rod again and didn’t have time to sit down and I had another screamer again on the left hand rod, another hard battle ended in a 20lb 5oz linear, a stunning fish fin perfect, the mouth on this fish looked as though it hadn’t been caught in a while. I recast my rod again and within an hour my left rod was off again, which turned out to be a small common of 14lb. I had to wait 2 hours until I had my next fish and again was on my left hand rod and which also turned out as a common but of a better size at 18lb 2oz, after that I received no more fish but I can’t complain with 5 carp including 2 20s. My Dad caught lots of small fish including a nice bream of 5lb and a few nice perch and roach.

Straits Mill
Being a new member and coming back to modern day fishing after 35 or more years and being a fully paid up member of the ATGANI Club ( All the Gear and No Idea), I fished the small lake at Straits Mill on Saturday 28/5 totally unproductively from 0900 til 1600hrs and on the last retrieve of the day, this chased my sweet corn and pellet on a No 8 barbless on a lb. line .... No idea of the weight as I am also short of scales but judging by my unhooking may it was about 30 inches long ..
It turned a pleasant day into a great day
Forceps and scales are now on my list in case it happens again

On 22/5/11 my dad and me visited swan lake(his suggestion). I wasn’t too keen as last time we fished it the water was very low
and the bottom was breaking up.However, what a difference! the water was still a little low due to 8 weeks of no rain, but the place looked a picture with irises and ox eyed daisy. Despite the gale we did ok, I had a carp 9lb 10oz and numerous roach and a couple of skimmers and my dad had a carp the same size and two bream,6lb 10oz and 6lb 2oz. Thanks to the committee for opening a month early.what a treat.

Sorry for reporting so late, but on the last 2 days of last season(30th-31st March) me and my fishing partner Steve fished Jackletts Farm 7.00am Weds-8.00pm Thur. Alas,we did'nt get our preferred Beach Swim(Some one beat us to it by 20 mins), so we went round the other side and fished the double swim with the steps leading down to it(about a 10 ft drop). We both caught 2 small carp each (Small Halibut pellet, plus PVA bag) casting just past the weed bed (about 30 yards out) and also lost a couple each (they do know where that weed is the thickest). At 11.00pm Weds,on my favoured method, beefed up float tactics (10lb main,8lb hook length with starlite) down the margins, I hooked and landed a 12lb Common (small worm). Then at 2.00am (Thurs) on a 1 inch slug (which was climbing up my brolly) I hooked and landed, after the fish had beaten me up for 25 minutes,a superb 26lb 12oz common (on my float). Landed, weighed and safely returned, all by myself,as Steve had decided to have a few hours kip in his motor (sods law,no one to see or photograph my PB). A very nice note to end the season on.

Laundry
I went down to Laundry Lake today, 21st May. I arrived at 6am and it was still with a mist covering the lake,it looked most impressive. I went in a swim about halfway along the left hand side bank. the rods were in and fishing by 6.30am but 6 hours came and went without so much as a beep. I decided to change from zig rigs to my mate Normans secret bottom hook bait combo and lobbed it in a couple of rod lengths out, just near some reeds to the left and within 5 minutes the line tore from the reel and I had hooked a beauty. It took a while to get her in and fortunately the gents in the next swim kindly came over to land it for me. In to the weighing sling she went and she registered a PB for me of 27.4lbs of pristine common. Happy days. A further 6 hours passed without another bite but one of them a visit will do nicely!
Many thanks to Duncan & Paul for their help and photo taking.

Another visit to Southminster this weekend (14/15/ May) but this time on Pit 1. Norman rules the roost with another collection of lovely Carp (3 Mirrors & 2 Commons) weighing up to 10lb and 3 nice Tench. Roy also weighed in with an 11lb+ Mirror and a Bream and Tench. A bad one for me, a lonely 6oz Rudd! A fine weekend though and the rain kept away.

BarleyLands
09/05/2011. I arrived at Barleyland farm at 09:30 and set up . Keith Collard was talking to me and told me to try plastic sweet corn, so after he went that was what I tried. Around about 13:45 two other members turned up. I was talking to themand my alarm went off. I ran to my rod and pulled it up, the rod bent over, fish on. I knew it was a big fish. It puledl all around the lake and went toward the water pump, I thought it was going to get tangled around the power cable so I kept my rod very high and the fish went over the top the cable, thank god. 20 minutes passed, the other member netted the fish for me, it was a 21lb 6oz mirror PB I asked theother member to take the photos for me and he obliged. My camera did not work so I had to used my phone, if I was by myself it would have been difficult to take a photo of the fish. I would like to say thank you to the other member.

Southminster
Just joined BDAC together with my mate and we ventured off to Southminster for the first day/night/day of the BDAC season. We arrived @ 4.30am on Sunday with only 1 other car in the car park. A choice of 8 pits was before us and after having a little walk round plumped for pit number 3. We parked up at the far left end of the car park and had the double swim there. First impressions were what a lovely place it was and we weren’t disappointed. I had the pleasure of catching our 1st fish, a lovely Rudd at around 9.30am. Shortly afterwards my mate got the first of his 10 Carp haul starting off with a lovely 6.5lb mirror and then gradually reeling them in up to a 12lb common (2 mirrors and 8 commons). In between I managed to get 2 carp, one @ 14lb and one @ 10lb. The favoured bait was a cell boilie tipped off with fake corn. My 14lb’r was got close in on the right hand side under the overhanging branches, the majority of my mates was from the far margin. A few he got in the night/early hours were from the middle and every fish was in lovely condition. All in all a fantastic day/night/day and every person we met and spoke to were extremely pleasant with only good things to say about the venue. Shot off around 10.30am Monday morning to earn some brownie points with the wives and we shall be returning very soon! Few pics attached.
