Etang des Landes
I have been fishing for CARP for over 20 years now and I enjoy the annual pilgrimage to France. Like most people I have fished numerous venues in France and have had a varying degree of success and frustration. However in my opinion the perfect venue has now been found.
There is a lake called Etang des Landes this is set in the heart of rural France yet only a 30 minute drive from the City of Le Mans. The lake is approximately 4 hours drive from Calais. The route is simple and almost entirely Autoroute including the new southern section of the A28 from Rouen, the journey is effortless with some breathtaking scenery to take in.
The lake is stream fed and approx 5 acres in size, on a 10acre site. Depths range from 3 – 12 feet with a maximum of 5 anglers allowed. The number of swims has been restricted in order to ensure ample room for everyone and the formula appears to be working successfully. There is an impressive existing stock, which has been enhanced with the addition 4 years ago of a large number of quality Carp from the famous Maurepaire fishery. This stocking included 3x 40lbs and 15x 30lb fish with many of the 20’s being in excess of 25lb.
I have personally fished the venue three times now, it has been fished properly for three seasons now and average catch weights are increasing rapidly. Last season there were 14 - 40lb+ captures and this is 5 or 6 different fish over 40lb. The fish appear to be gaining weight at about 3lb-6lb per season. The lake record recorded in August 2007 stands at 48lbs caught by Dennis Wilkinson. This season is eagerly anticipated as more 40’s are expected and who knows that magic 50lb barrier is not far away.
I fished a week in September 2006 with a friend and between us we had 45 runs landing 37 Fish including 2x 40lb 15x 30lb 17x 20lb most of which were in excess of 25lb and just 3 fish under 20lb. Our average catch weight was just under 29lb.

Etang des Landes
Etang des Landes is a 5 acre estate lake that is absolutely stunning even in its winter plumage. Spring fed at one end, with a dam wall and drain at the other...perfect! We have been fishing it for the last three years in which time it has become a real classy little fishery.
I’ve always been a big venue angler in France, big ressies, big rivers and the like and had never considered this kind of venue...5 acres...a mere puddle!!! I’m used to that for each rod!! But make no mistake it is a great change and a proper holiday, with emphasis on the word holiday. Relax and enjoy.

Etang des Landes
My last trip to Etang des Landes was in May of this year when 4 of us fished the lake. The. two of us fishing the house side had over a 1000lb of fish, the biggest being a 36lb common with a few other 30lbers and a lot of upper 20s caught using the owners fish meal bollies and pellet. Most of the fish were commons with some really fine looking mirrors. I found the best method was using size 8 hooks and small rigs apox 5 to 6in long and you don't have to cast long distances to get into the fish. One of my friends fishing the opposite bank was .fishing in France for the first time and his first fish was a pb 30lb 4oz common and there were 3 other pb's caught in the week, though not by myself.
I caught the lake record back in March with a 45lb mirror and there is no doubt in my mind that fish will be in its 50"s next year for me to catch HOPEFULLY!!!!!
The weather was changeable otherwise there could have been a lot more fish caught. I did lose 11 fish with hook pulls but landed 18 fish for about 700lb so I had a great time.

Laundry lake
I fished laundry lake for the first time on Sunday 28th choosing to fish at the dam end (deep end) had an 18 linear early on followed by a 25lb 2oz mirror which I believe is a new lake record, there was a bailiff onsite to confirm the picture of the fish and he advised me of the name... think it was black scale/spot? anyway it was caught a foot from the bank over chopped boiles and pellet with chopped boile on the hair. Terrific fight, really clean and well kept lake and fish. Lots more showing.

All carp were caught on bollies, banana flavour proving to be a big hit.

Etang des Landes
I recently returned from Etang Des Landes where my brother and I both BDAC
members spent a very good week.
The hosts Mary and Paul Forster made us very welcome were very friendly and
the food Mary cooked was par excellent.
Paul has a great lake and is an angler himself one of what I call the old
school i.e. we are anglers who fish for carp as well as other species and
not just Carp anglers looking to catch the biggest fish that they can.
As you can see when the carp were not biting I fished a worm and took an
unmarked 3lb tench
I had my personal best a 30lb mirror and my brother did the same with a 34lb
mirror.
I would recommend any angler to fulfill his dream and visit Etang Des Landes
for a great weeks fishing with great hosts as well.
