OFF TO A FLYER!

Well, here we are at the start of the new season. First group of anglers arrived Saturday. My main concern is how have the fish got through the winter? Will they be fighting fit, healthy and in good condition? The weather here has been very unsettled from blazing sunshine to extremely cold. Will the carp be feeding yet? All my questions remain unanswered until Sunday morning when the first fish of the season is landed. A pristine common of twenty-seven pounds to Robert from Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. Then a thirty plus mirror to the same angler. The lake remains quiet for the rest of the day apart from a few odd bleeps reported by the other anglers. Line bites? Or crafty carp? Who knows?
Monday morning and Robert strikes into a big fish. A new personal best for him and a new Lake Record for us! A big mirror at forty-six pounds 12oz, in perfect condition. Another member of the party looses the biggest fish he’s ever seen at the net and is devastated. We’ve all “been there” but it is only day two from seven and who knows what will happen during the rest of the week?
The weather is set to improve as the week goes on, the fish are in excellent condition and how much will that big mirror weigh when in spawn or after a couple of months of munching baits?
For anyone who has yet to visit us here, please have a look at our new comments page on the website www.etangdeslandes.co.uk It may influence your decision as to where to book for your next trip to France.
When you book an unknown water for the first time, you are taking a chance. Bear in mind that Etang des Landes will not suit everyone. If you are looking for a huge lake with the odd monster fish, a diet of curries, and chips with everything and beer drinking competitions this is definitely not for you. You may well think that a forty pounder is a “nothing” fish but I can assure you that is completely wrong. You cannot come to France and expect to catch a “fish per chuck”, it doesn’t work like that. You have to fish well and work for your results. Many anglers in the UK have yet to catch a 30 pounder as their PB, not because of their incompetence but they simply do not have access to waters which hold such fish. We do here. We have a vast number of 30’s plus seven known forties. We have not had the magical 50 yet but we are hoping next season we will.
The majority of our guests have been very pleased to find that this venue exceeds all their expectations and have become regular visitors year on year.
See you soon.
