Season 2011/12
Senior League
The final match was fished at Slough House and although the top 3 weights were good the back up weights were poor. The winner was Alan Halsey with a good weight of 45-9-0 which included 2 carp and 25lb of silvers, he was pegged halfway along the left hand bank most of the other leading weights came from the right hand side of the spit. 2nd was Ray Ankin with 33-2-0 and in 3rd Lee Tomlin with 22-0-0. Congratulations go to Steve Allgood for winning the championship and Terry Edwards for the top weight.
The penultimate match took us to Slough House but unfortunately the skimmers were not on the feed and it was down to the roach with a few going for the carp. Recording his first Billericay win was Dean Mansfield who caught 2 carp early in the match for a weight of 20-15-0, he was drawn just down the right hand side of the spit, in 2nd was Mr consistent Ken Spinks at the end of the spit with 14-12-0 which included a nice perch of 2-2-0. The current league leader Steve Allgood was 3rd with 14-6-0 and in 4th was another newcomer Mike Downs with 12-14-0 which was the top weight from the left hand bank.
The last match of the season is the Xmas match again at Slough House draw at 8.00 fish 9.30-14.30, lets hope the skimmers turn up for this one. Please book in if you wish to fish, and those that still have trophies to return bring them to this match.
30th October saw 30 anglers fish the pairs match on Pathfield at Colemans. A few anglers sorted the fish out but for most it was a rather frustrating day with fish in the swim but not taking the hook bait. Like many lakes Pathfield is in desperate need for plenty of rain. The pairs match was won by Andy Holt/Steve Holden with 71 points, 2nd Steve Gunner/Dave Sykes with 61 and in 3rd on weight Kevin Rogers/Fred Barnes with 59.
On the individual front it was a run away win for Trevor Haydn who was fishing as a guest he had a good net of Carp weighing 140-0, 2nd was Shaun Mahoney, the broken arm is not stopping him from producing the goods, he had 87-0 and in 3rd making a welcome return was Kevin Rogers with 72-8. Hopefully the full result and updated league will be on the attachments.
I will keep you updated re the scheduled river match on 20th November if things don't improve on the river this match may be switched to another venue.
Armigers
The latest Match was the Handicap Charity held at Armigers on 16th October. It was a very cold start with the first frost but the fishing was reasonable with 4 weights over the ton. Winning his first Seniors Match was Nigel Warwick with 109-12-0, he was pegged just down the slope to the left of the big willow. He had a slow start but eventually got the Carp going on paste in the margins. 2nd off the dam wall on the top lake was Chris Ward with 108-0-0 and 3rd also on the top lake to the right of the willow was Ken Spinks with 106-12-0. I had a rather frustrating day sitting opposite Ken & Nigel watching them catch and I struggled. The other ton up man was Jim Trew with 103-0-0 also from the top lake. The best weight on the bottom lake was Dave Sykes with 74-4-0. A total of £90.00 was raised for charity.
Please note that the river match has been changed from Paper Mills to Hoe Mill upstream this is because of a fish kill at Paper Mills.
The next match is the pairs at Colemans on 30th October please book in if you wish to fish.
Southminster
The 6th match was the Animal charity fished on pits 1, 3, and 6 at Southminster on 25th Sept. The winner was one of our river fishery officers John Le Surf who swapped his trotting rod for a pole and drew the platform swim at the end of pit 6. The wind was blowing up towards him and he weighed in 41-10-0 of carp which included the biggest carp of the match at 14-8-0. 2nd was Tim Lynch who also drew pit 6 to the right of the animal swim. He caught and lost a couple of carp before going for the silvers which included some good roach for a weight of 28-7-0. 3rd was Calvin Elder who drew pit 1 on the beach and he had a good net of Bream/Skimmers for 23-8-0. The top weight on pit 3 was Alan Halsey with 17-4-0 but pit 3 did produce a good Cruician Carp at 2-8-0 for Keith Ward and this will be in the running for specimen cup. A total of £100 was raised for charity. Thanks to all those who donated raffle prizes.
The next match is another charity event at Armiggers on 16th Oct. please book in if you wish to fish.

The 5th Match was the Barrie Bruce Memorial fished at Tylers on Horseshoe Lake. There were 4 weights over the ton and some very good backup weights. The winner was Cliff Adams with 145-6-0 of Carp, second Terry Edwards with 129-8-0, third was Tim Bruce with 105-0-0 and a close 4th with 104-0-0 was Chris Ward. It was good to see one of our new members Richard Masser pick up some section money with 62-4-0.
The next Match is at Southminster and is one of our Charity Events, the cost of entry will be £5 and Terry & Cliff will give the rest of us a chance of winning because they will not be fishing this match. If you wish to fish please let me know if you have not done so already.

Club match section regular & previous (on numerous occasions) club match champion Lee Tomlin, won the individual Bronze medal in this years Div. 2 National Championships fished on the Basingstoke Canal in Hampshire yesterday.
Lee weighed in 5.790 kg.
Lee only made the BDAC team 72 hours before the match after one of the squad had to withdraw due to illness, and the teams nominated reserve had urgent family matters to deal with.
Special dispensation was kindly granted by the A.T. to allow Lee entry into the competition. |
